This is one of the most intriguing thing I’ve seen in a very long time...
Herons are opportunistic eaters, so while fish are their main course, they won't turn down a tasty rodent snack if the chance arises.

Here's how they might catch one:
1) Patience and Stealth: Herons are masters of disguise. They can stand very still for long periods, waiting for prey to wander by. Their long legs help them wade silently through shallow water or tall grass, keeping their movements hidden.
2) Sharp Eyes and Beak: Herons have excellent eyesight, allowing them to spot even the slightest movement. Their long, sharp beaks are perfect for spearing unsuspecting prey.
3) The Strike: Once a heron spots a rodent, it lunges quickly with its sharp beak to snatch the prey. Their long necks help them reach into burrows or under vegetation where rodents might be hiding.
Here's a caveat: While herons can catch rodents, they aren't a major part of their diet. Fish and other aquatic creatures are their usual targets.
