族群形式的衍生群体
受到族群影响，有些猫的名字和族群猫的结构类似，但词缀又有些差异。
Darktail便是拥有族群猫似的名字的非族群猫之一。尽管他的名字是否是模仿族群命名，亦或只是个巧合，书中从未提起。
武士族是另一个显而易见的例子。其族长Monkeystar的名字，是由两脚兽将她命名为猴子（英Monkey）后，再自封为“-星”而来。而武士族所使用的词缀，例如虫（bug-）、食者（-eater）、大（big-）等，都是目前族群猫名中从未出现的。此外，Bigteeth所使用的后缀“-teeth”，也和一般族群猫所使用的“-tooth”（如Snaptooth）有所差异。

在某些情况下，他们可以加入族群、成为族群猫。通常他们会改名，例如雷德改名为“黄毛”、[8]:149斯克兰奇改名为“锐掌”。[9]:332在少数情况下，他们也会保留原名，例如石头、米莉和黛西等。[10]:86
