CVPR2022 Biometrics Workshop
Pet Biometric Challenge
This challenge is a part of the IEEE Computer Society Workshop on Biometrics at CVPR 2022.
According to the GMI report, global pet care market size surpassed $232 billion in 2020. With the rapid growth of pet economy, pet welfare becomes an increasingly critical issue. In many scenarios such as pet management, trading, insurance, medical treatment etc., pet identification is a challenging problem, and currently there is no solution balanced accuracy, cost and usability well. As a contrast, vision-based pattern identification (such as face, fingerprint, iris etc.) has been successfully applied in human biometrics for a long history. An interesting question is: can we transfer these technologies to pet biometrics?
As a leading technology company, Ant Group has explored vision-based pet biometrics for several years, and has made progress in real-world application. We notice there is a lack of pet identity data for CV academic community, which significantly block technology development in this field. Therefore, we hope to host a series of competitions in the next few years, contributing real-world high-quality pet identity data to community, to promote development both for research and industry aspects.
As first round competition, in this year we release a dataset with cropped dog nose-print images captured by consumer-grade smartphones, and set a challenge with regards to 1 vs 1 identity verification. As a result, we hope the dataset and challenge may attract researchers’ attention and encourage innovations in related fields (including but not limited to biometric, transfer learning, fine-grained representation, image processing etc.).
April 5, 2022: Registration opens, training and validation set release
Participants must have signed up for an Aliyun account before they can compete either individually or on a team of up to 5 members. The members on the team cannot be changed after the registration deadline.
Participants that have registered for the competition can start downloading the training datasets and validation datasets, debugging the algorithms locally.
May 27, 2022: Registration deadline,testing set release
Participants that have registered for the competition can start downloading the testing datasets, generating prediction results locally, and submitting the results to Tianchi. Each team has three chances of submissions each day. If a team submits multiple results in one day, the latest version takes precedence. After each submission, the system immediately tests and grades the algorithm. The leaderboard of the competition will be updated each hour and display the highest score of each team during the competition.
Participants must accept the competition rules before this date in order to compete. This is also the last day that participants join or merge teams.
All teams (including the team leader and all team members) need to complete the real-name authentication before 9:59:59 AM on May 27 (authentication entrance: Tianchi official website - personal center on the upper right corner - authentication - Alipay real-name authentication).
In phase2, ALL members of the team MUST complete the real-name authentication in order to be eligible for the final ranking and cash award. The team that fails to complete the real-name authentication will NOT be able to carry out the subsequent competitions.
Please scan the following QR code to join the official QA group, and the latest notification will be synchronized within the group as soon as possible:
May 29, 2022: Testing set prediction submission deadline
Participating teams need to submit their last submission and generate a score by May 29,2022 at 10:00am; Submissions that are still running at the deadline will be ignored. The leaderboard will be updated for the last time on May 29,2022 at 11:00am.
May 30, 2022: Tech report and git repo submission deadline
The top 6 teams on the leaderboard need to submit following contents to competition organizers for technical review and result reproducing before May 30, 2022 10:00am:
A link to an ArXiv paper with 2~6 pages describing proposed method in detail
A link to a Github repository of source code and model weights
June 19,2022: Award session in CVPR Biometrics workshop
Teams that successfully complete the technical review will be invited to attend the CVPR Biometrics workshop. Awards will be presented at the conference.
The competition organizers reserve the right to update the contest timeline if they deem it necessary.
This competition is open to everyone, except for members of Ant Group.
Members of the Alibaba Group can participate in the competition, but they will be excluded from the Awards.
