粪便是啥？

食肉动物不应该产生体积大且分量大的软便。正常的犬科动物会尽量利用所摄入的食物，由此，他们产生的粪便应该较为紧实，相对干燥，没有可怕的气味，且量比较少。当食肉动物摄入健康、适当的新鲜食物时，“连他们的便便都是可爱的！”狗狗和猫咪的粪便气味与产生胀气的现象和体内的生物群落有关。细菌会产生许多令人不快的气体和气味，而不健康的生物群落则会散发出不健康的气味。

如果宠物每天排便超过两次，所产生的便便柔软、气味大分量也大，就说明食物中添加的东西含有不适当的成分，这对猫和狗来说是不正常的。

监测正常摄取量的好方法，是观察宠物的体重和排便频率。狗和猫通常每天最多大便一到两次。便便体积小、坚硬，而且看上去并不总是一模一样的。如果狗和猫的排便量超过每天一到两次，说明要么他们是吃得太多，或者食物中存在太多不适当的东西。

腹泻和呕吐

呕吐或腹泻可能是对所摄入食物的反应，或者是系统性疾病的症状。如果是对食物的反应，紧急驱逐这种食物是相当合理的机制。身体在说“这是错误的食物！”必须尽快将其删除。医学通常把呕吐和腹泻描述为一种疾病的过程，所以医生会开一些药，以阻止食物的排除。这些药物可以有效阻止胃肠道疾病的循环，但如果是饮食方面的缺陷，这样的方法解决不了问题。

对于很多慢性甚至是突发性胃肠道疾病的患者来说，解决之道或许仅仅是慢慢把饮食调整为更适合物种的，新鲜的有机食品。自然的细菌生物群落将得以滋养，更易协助消化，身体就会更健康。在改变饮食的过程中，花上几周时间改换食物很有用，要考虑添加适当的prebiotic fiber【抱歉，实在不知道怎么翻译，度娘给的答案是益生纤维】，益生菌补充品以及可能还要添加一些酶。

团队协同作战

有益的细菌、真菌和寄生虫和谐共处于体内，在消化活动中各司其职。但随着宠物和食用动物体内抗生素的过度使用，以及很多宠物食品中杀虫剂/除草剂的增加（如已知带有抗生素特性的草甘膦），我们发现的问题比解决细菌问题还要多。随着新的耐药菌越来越常见，有益菌在减少，我们正在扰乱消化活动所需要的微妙平衡。此外，过度清洁、过度洗浴、无菌食品和生活方式对宠物健康生物群落的维护没有好处。

在某些情况下，补充受损细菌种群的唯一途径就是进行粪便移植。这包括从一只健康的、吃新鲜食物的狗或猫的粪便中提取便便，用一种特殊的配方制成液体，再将这种液体通过灌肠或胶囊的方式注入不健康的动物体内。这一过程看起来很粗糙，但对已经无法进行吸收的动物来说，尤其有效。
